Our selection of high-quality sponges and scourers will transform the clean-up process, creating seamless finishes on tiling projects.
A tile scourer is a specialised tool designed to speed-up the cleaning process after the installation of tile projects. It’s a non-abrasive tool that’s designed for delicate cleaning and removing any residue without scratching or damaging tiles. It can also be used to maintain tiles over time, and even for polishing and buffing terracotta tiles with Cotta Wax.
Our white scourers are made from light polyester fibres that are finer than other harsher materials, ensuring that they’re effective when removing excess epoxy grout.
If you’re in need of this tile cleaning accessory quickly, next day delivery is available if you order before 3pm!
Hydro sponges and scourers can go hand-in-hand during the clean-up time after tile installations, but they each play a different role throughout this process. Let’s take a look at their key differences and why each cleaning accessory is so effective.
Scourers Are Great For Tile Buffing
Scouring pads are ideal for buffing terracotta tiles with Cotto wax to enhance their finish and look.
Hydro Sponges Are Ideal For Wiping Away Excess Grout
With their dense cellulose structure and capacity to absorb a lot of liquid, sponges are perfect for wiping away excess grout as well as regular maintenance.
Scouring Pads Are Great For Delicate Maintenance
Designed with fine materials, scouring pads are great for cleaning tiles without scratching and damaging any surfaces.
Hydro Sponges Are Effective For Large Surface Coverage
Thanks to their size and high absorbency, hydro sponges are ideal for cleaning and covering larger tiled areas.
Both our hydro sponges and scouring pads are available in our Complete Washboy Cleaning Set, ideal for professional tilers and even beginners
Our Beava Hydro Sponge is essential for your tiling projects as it can hold 15x more its weight in liquids. Standard sponges are okay for some projects, but our Hydro Sponges are specifically designed to pull off excess grout and dirt, retain more water and resist breaking during the clean-up process. Boxed in a pack of 60, our hydro sponges are great for professional tile installations.
We also believe that our hydro sponge isn’t the only cleaning tool you need to finish seamless tile installations. That’s why we have our complete Beava Washboy Grout Cleaning Kit where all the essentials are in one place.
To eliminate grout haze when cleaning your tiles, we suggest that you frequently rinse the sponge to avoid the cloudy residue on your grout lines. One tip is to use separate buckets, one for rinsing your sponge and the other for collecting new water to wash your tiles. This is to ensure that you’re not dipping the same sponge into dirty water when using it to clean your tiles.
After you’ve given your tiles a refresh, we suggest drying your grout with a micro-fibre cloth to avoid any residue that can cause grout haze. A micro-fribre cloth is soft and won’t scratch your tiles during this process.
If you find that you have grout haze on your tiling project, a scouring pad can help remove it. Add some grout haze remover in between the tiles and work in circular motions to remove the grout haze.
After wiping away excess grout with newly installed tiles with a hydro sponge, or removing grout haze with a scouring pad, it’s important that they’re kept clean for next time. There are two cleaning techniques that you can use for your sponges and scouring pads:
The Dishwasher Method
If you have a dishwasher, place the sponge or scouring pad on the top rack after rinsing it. Run a regular heat cycle to ensure that bacteria is killed and your cleaning accessory is free of any residue.
The Bleach Method
Mix some warm water with a light amount of bleach and leave the cleaning tool to soak for 5 minutes. Afterwards, rinse the sponge or scouring pad thoroughly to ensure any excess bleach is removed, wring it out and then leave it to dry. This method is also an effective way of removing any bacteria and residue from your cleaning accessories.
