Tile trims are a collection of ‘strips’, made from the likes of aluminium, stainless steel or PVC that are designed to protect the edges of tiles that would be otherwise exposed and provide your tile installation with a neat, professional finish.
There are different types of tile trims, but the most common type is designed to be installed along the edges of your tiled areas such as along the edges of walls, floors or around features such as windows or shower doors or niches.
Other tile trims are designed to protect your tiles against natural structural movement or provide a neat transition between tiled and carpeted or vinyl floor areas.
A good rule of thumb when it comes to choosing the right size tile trim is to choose a tile trim that’s one size up from the thickness of your chosen tile. This is to allow for the adhesive layer you also have to apply for the tiles to stick.
You should allow for around 1mm to 2.5mm for your adhesive. So if your tile thickness is 10mm, opt for a tile trim that measures 12.5mm (or the closest equivalent) to ensure you have enough space for everything and you achieve a professional finish that you’re happy with.
